There are no original letters to or from Merton in this file. It includes "Letters to Pat", a collection of Merton's correspondence with Pat Hickman, edited with an introduction by Paul M. Pearson. Descriptions of the transcripts of these letters are included in the container list below.
Pat Hickman was Merton's girlfriend for a few months while he was a student at Columbia University in 1938. These letters were written during a week spend with Robert Lax in Olean, New York.
