Msgr. Vincent Yzermans visited Gethsemani Abbey, probably in September of 1967 based on an entry in Merton's journals. Yzermans writes the extant message, seemingly while on retreat at Gethsemani, asking Merton to meet with him to discuss an article for The Priest magazine.
Msgr. Vincent Arthur Yzermans took over as editor of Our Sunday Visitor and its affiliate magazine, The Priest, in the fall of 1967. He was a priest from Minnesota.
