Scope and Content

Merton had agreed to be an advisory member of the National Association for Pastoral Renewal (NAPR) in April of 1967, which was moving to allow for a married clergy in the Catholic Church. Cardinal Spellman was against their idea of a poll being taken on the subject and Merton was brought before the Apostolic Delegation for his involvement in this organization. Despite his involvement, he does not think Dom James Fox would approve of Fr. John Daly's invitation to be interviewed on camera on such an issue.

Biography

Fr. John Daly was writing as a member of the National Association for Pastoral Renewal. He was writing from St. Louis, Missouri, where he worked at Barnes Hospital.
