Merton explains to Fr. Plassmann that his Trappist lifestyle does not allow him to write a textbook as asked, but that he would send a collection of the poems he had written. He suggests asking Robert Lax to write the book.

Biography

Fr. Thomas Plassmann was a Franciscan priest and President of St. Bonaventure College in New York.
