Scope and Content

Merton comments on two articles from "The Talk of the Town" section of the New Yorker, both from late August of 1966. The first concerns the deaths of comedian Lenny Bruce and jazz artist Bud Powell, and Merton asks where he can get a hold of their material, especially of Lenny Bruce. The second concerns the comment by John Lennon that the Beatles were more popular than Jesus. Merton finds the theological reflections in this article quite moving.
