Peers had published translations of the works of Spanish mystics including St. John of the Cross. Merton asked in a letter from July 30, 1948 about quoting from The Ascent of Mount Carmel and of publishing the Dark Night [of the Soul].	«Thank you for your letter of July 30, which reached me in Spain at the beginning of September.»
