2 - 6 1 1948 Letter from E. Allison Peers to Merton. Peers was professor at the Institute of Hispanic Studies at the University of Liverpool in England. Peers had published translations of the works of Spanish mystics including St. John of the Cross. Merton asked in a letter from July 30, 1948 about quoting from The Ascent of Mount Carmel and of publishing the Dark Night [of the Soul]. «Thank you for your letter of July 30, which reached me in Spain at the beginning of September.»
