1963/01/17 TALSto MertonI am writing you at this time to request that you comment on the enclosed manuscript, [contains Merton's handwritten annotations] asks Merton reaction to Erich Fromm's The Psychological Causes of War for a series promoting alternatives to a U.S. nuclear policy / enclosing Waskow's Unintended War / invited contributors: Niebuhr, Tillich, Jerome Frank, Sorokin, Masserman, Bettleheim, Menninger
1963/06/28 TL[c]from MertonMany thanks for the extra copies of the pamphlet "War Within Man". I was glad to have them and Merton thinks responses to Fromm by some (Tillich, Morgenthau and others) were "negative and evasive" / wants to write Fromm a positive response / Leslie Dewart of St. Michael's College in Toronto - book on Cuba
